I had so much fun putting together last Friday’s Weekend reading + a few bits and pieces together that I think I might just make it a weekly thing. What do you guys think?
This weekend the hubs and I are running away for a little getaway to celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary. Palm Springs is one of those magical places that’s close enough to drive to in less than two hours but feels like it’s 1,000 miles away from the everyday stresses of real life. Palm Springs has a very rich, glamorous history – I found this great Vanity Fair article from 1998 (!!) It’s essentially a tour of the old Palm Springs with Sonny Bono as your tour guide. It’s not a short article, but it’s a great read – slightly dated but chock full of fun facts.
1. Staying with the Palm Springs theme, this beautiful wedding set in the Frederick Loewe Estate is full of little details that just knocked my socks off. Case in point: the gold “love” balloons. I adore the shot of the groom’s tie, shoes and Paul Smith socks. As a tradition I always get hubs Paul Smith socks as part of his gift for special occasions. Well, that and because he hasn’t bought new socks himself since 2006.
2. I guess I’m feeling extra romantic this week so I geeked out and created a “Couples” Pinterest board.
3. Anyone who ever visited Diana Moss’ expertly curated blog, Miss Moss is familiar with her Nice Things series. This week she really outdid herself by also color coordinating the roundup which includes that dreamy pink ACNE moto-jacket amongst other things.
4. I purchased that big ol’ floppy J.Crew hat for laying out by the pool (more than 5 minutes exposed to the sun turns me a very unappealing shade of red). It also happens to be on sale at J.Crew stores, I think I paid $18 for it – not sure why it’s not marked down in the online store.
Well, that’s it kids – hope everyone has a fun, relaxing first weekend of Summer!

Sounds like a perfectly lovely weekend. Palm Springs is on my list…some day! I got a floppy J Crew hat like that at the outlet last year, and it quickly became my favorite. Enjoy!
Congratulations to you and your husband on your 3 year Anniversary!
Enjoy your getaway. IK.
PS : the black and white Palm Springs Bound is charming.
I’m like you, if I’m exposed to sun for more than 30 seconds I’m a lobster. I don’t think I’ve ever tanned in my entire life! That floppy sun hat looks right up my alley
Have fun in Palm Springs (I’m so jealous of all you Californians!) and congratulations on your wedding anniversary! Hope you two have a relaxing and romantic weekend! xo
I will definitely have to read this article! I love learning about that kind of history. Have a wonderful weekend!
Cheers, Elizabeth @ The Corner Apartment
Aww, happy anniversary to you and your husband. My 3rd year is coming up too! How cool that we got married in the same year.
Have a great time in Palm Springs!!
Happy anniversary, Kate! Have the most relaxing and romantic time. Palm Springs is the perfect choice. As you perfectly describe it, close enough but feels 1,000 miles away.
How on earth did I miss that floppy hat at J. Crew! You’re going to look fabulous in it lounging by the pool.
I’m liking your Friday bits, for sure.
I live big hats like that… Hope you’re having a nice one!
